To add real customer reviews to Shopify, install a reviews app, place its block on your product template, then ask buyers for a review after delivery. If you already have reviews from Amazon, Etsy, Google or a previous site, you can import them. Every review must come from a real buyer.

## Step 1: Choose a reviews app

Reviews are added to a Shopify store through an app from the Shopify App Store. Compare a few on what you need: review requests by email, photo reviews, import and how the widget looks on a phone.

As one example, [Judge.me](https://apps.shopify.com/judgeme) lists a free plan and an Awesome plan at $15 a month, as of November 2026. Its listing says the free plan includes unlimited reviews and a reviews importer. Check the current listing before you decide, and read how each plan handles reminders.

## Step 2: Show reviews on your product pages

If your app provides an app block, these are [Shopify’s steps](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/customizing-themes/apps):

1. Go to **Online Store**, find your theme and click **Edit theme**.
2. Open the product page and the section where the reviews should appear.
3. Click **Add block** and choose your app’s block under **Apps**.
4. Drag it into position and click **Save**.

App blocks only work with compatible themes, and not every section accepts them. If you are preparing a new theme, repeat this step in that theme before you publish it. Our [product page guide](https://forgefont.com/blog/shopify-product-page-guide) shows how reviews fit with the rest of the page.

## Step 3: Ask real buyers after delivery

The best moment is after the customer has had time to use the product. Set the app’s request to go out after fulfillment or delivery, and allow a delay that suits the product: a face cream needs longer than a phone case.

Ask every customer, not only those you expect to be happy. Keep the message short and ask for an honest opinion. If you offer something in exchange for a review, it cannot depend on the review being positive, and it should be disclosed.

## Step 4: Import the reviews you already have

If real customers have reviewed the same product elsewhere, you can bring those reviews into your store. Keep them unaltered, and attach each one to the product it was written about. Check that the platform’s terms let you reuse them.

In Judge.me, the [spreadsheet import](https://intercom.help/judgeme-5034134337dc/en/articles/8223181-importing-reviews-from-a-csv-file) is under **Settings** > **Import reviews**. You must confirm that the reviews are genuine and that you have permission to import them. Judge.me also says that reviews imported this way will not be marked as verified. Leave it that way: do not add a “verified” label to anything you cannot verify.

## What does the Forgefont Customer reviews option do?

The Customer reviews option imports into your store reviews you have already received from real buyers, for example on Amazon, Etsy, Google or a previous site. Forgefont does not write or generate reviews. Our terms of sale set these conditions:

- You guarantee that the reviews you provide come from real customers and were not made up, altered or bought.
- Providing fictitious reviews, or presenting them as coming from real customers, is prohibited.
- You are solely responsible for the reviews you provide and for publishing them on your store.
- In case of breach, Forgefont may refuse the import and end the service.

## What are the rules on reviews?

This is general information, not legal advice. Check with a professional if you are unsure what applies to you.

| Source | What it says |
| --- | --- |
| [United States: FTC rule](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/08/federal-trade-commission-announces-final-rule-banning-fake-reviews-testimonials) | Bans fake reviews, including AI-generated ones, buying positive or negative reviews, and suppressing negative ones through threats or intimidation. [In effect since October 21, 2024](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/consumer-reviews-testimonials-rule-questions-answers). |
| [European Union](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/unfair-treatment/unfair-commercial-practices/index_en.htm) | Bans paying for fake reviews and altering reviews. Traders must say how they ensure reviews come from real consumers, and must make reasonable efforts to verify them. |
| [United Kingdom: CMA guidance](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fake-reviews-cma208) | Fake reviews are a banned practice under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, and those who publish reviews must take reasonable steps to prevent and remove them. |
| [Google review snippets](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/review-snippet) | Prohibits fake or undisclosed incentivized reviews in the page or markup, and says not to aggregate reviews or ratings from other websites. |

That last point matters if you import. Showing an honest review on a page and marking it up for Google stars are two different things. Check what structured data your app adds, and how it handles reviews from other websites.

## What should you do with bad reviews?

Leave honest ones up and reply calmly: say what you will do and do it. A page where every rating is perfect can look less credible, and a clear reply shows future buyers how you treat them. Reviews are one of several ways to remove doubt, alongside the fixes in our list of [product page mistakes](https://forgefont.com/blog/product-page-mistakes).

## If you already have real reviews

When you order a Forgefont store, you can add the Customer reviews option and bring in the reviews your real buyers have already written, subject to the conditions above. [Configure your store](https://forgefont.com/configurer) to see the option. If you have no reviews yet, skip it and start collecting from your first orders.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I ask friends or family to review my products?

Only if they really bought and used the product, and the link to you is disclosed. The FTC’s rule specifically addresses reviews from insiders and their relatives, so the safest choice is to rely on ordinary customers.

### What if I have no reviews yet?

Launch without them. Leave the reviews section empty or hidden, ask your first buyers after delivery, and let the count grow. A new store with no reviews is normal, and it is better than an invented one.

### Can I delete a negative review?

Be careful. Removing a review only because it is negative can make your store’s feedback misleading. Apply the same rules to all reviews, for example removing those that are about another product, and reply to honest complaints.
